Oscar Johnson was reportedly the first “black” player to adopt the serve and volley big game ala J. Kramer. Before most players of color played baseline.

Look at Hubert’s long pants! never saw him with these.

BTW does anyone remember the address/whereabouts of the Cosmopolitan Club ? I seem to remember it was on Convent Ave in the 130s.

Yes, the Cosmopolitan was on 149th and Convent Avenue.

      Hi Nardie-

Hubie Vincent was my dad. I never had a chance to see him play tennis.

It seems you knew him. Do you have any other recollections of him you’d be willing to share with me?

      Thanks!
